Military gear stores in one Russian region have seen a boom of customers since the partial mobilisation of reservists was announced by the country's President Vladimir Putin last week. Yulia Delyagina, the manager of one of the stores in Chelyabinsk, told The Associated Press they had ran out of winter equipment and other military gear.

One reservists, Artyom Artemiev, was seeking to buy additional gear before going to training but was unable to find most of it anywhere in the city. "There are not enough sleeping bags and mats for everyone," he said. "There used to be plenty of them here in this store, now there is nothing here and in any other stores."

Artemiev said he expects the state to provide at least armour and weapons, but that he was prepared to buy the rest himself. In the Nizhny Novgorod region, governor Gleb Nikitin handed out backpacks containing military gear to mobilised reservists to ensure "personal comfort" during their service.
